Just like his namesake (Duke Ellington), music pulses through Ellington Carthan’s veins. Ellington's diverse career includes sound design, composing, performing, and teaching. Ellington holds dual B.A degrees in Jazz Studies and Music Technology. He also holds a Masters of Music from Howard University where graduated in the fall of 2023. Ellington's creative endeavors are currently centered around Game Audio and Music Composition. However, Ellington has had a substantial career as a Jazz Pianist and Educator.
Like his mentor, celebrated pianist Cyrus Chestnut, Ellington enjoys mixing genres and resists being typecast. His compositions can fit any setting or genre. As a performer Ellington has shared the stage with renowned Jazz vibraphonist, Warren Wolf, opened for Jazz icon, Cecile McClorin Salvant, and has performed with Josanne Francis at Dizzy's Club. the Richmond Folk Festival 2022. He was honored to perform for President Joseph Biden and the Attorney General of Massachusetts in 2022 and at prestigious venues such as Blues Alley Jazz Club, The Kennedy Center, the French Embassy, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institute, and many other venues throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. In August 2023 Ellington became an Assistant Professor at St Mary's College of Maryland where he is the director of music technology and jazz studies.
Ellington is an alumnus of the Strathmore's Artist-in-Residence program.
Ellington has also created a YouTube Channel to teach piano to anyone interested in learning.
