Just like his namesake, jazz pulses through Ellington Carthan’s veins. This up-and-coming jazz pianist's diverse career includes performing, teaching, producing, and composing. Ellington holds dual degrees in Jazz Studies and Music Technology.  He as his Masters of Music from Howard University where graduated in the fall of 2023.

Like his mentor, celebrated pianist Cyrus Chestnut, Ellington enjoys mixing genres and resists being typecast. Ellington has performed with renowned Jazz vibraphonist, Warren Wolf, opened for Jazz icon, Cecile McClorin Salvant, at the Kent Island Jazz Festival 2021, and has performed with Josanne Francis at the Richmond Folk Festival 2022. He has been honored to perform for President Joseph Biden and the Attorney General of Massachusetts in the Summer of 2022 and at prestigious venues such as Blues Alley Jazz Club, The Kennedy Center, the French Embassy, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institute, and many other venues throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. As of August 2023 Ellington is an Assistant Professor at St Mary's College of Maryland where he is the director jazz studies and music technology. 

Ellington is an alumnus of the Strathmore's Artist-in-Residence program.

Ellington created a YouTube Channel to teach piano to anyone interested in learning.
