Ellington Carthan has a rich musical career that consists of teaching, performing, producing, and composing. He performs jazz regularly, accompanies for choirs, soloists, and collaborates with various ensembles.  He is self employed as a freelance performer and teacher.  Ellington holds a Bachelors of Music Degree in Jazz Studies and a Bachelors Degree in Music Technology, both from University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). 

At 24 years old, Ellington Carthan has 20+ piano students and 8 years of professional experience as a pianist and teacher.  He is currently a graduate student at Howard University where he is singing with Howard's premiere vocal ensemble Afro Blue led by Connaitre Miller. He is also studying piano with the great Cyrus Chesnut. Furthermore, Ellington is innovative in his exploration of Duo with Drums where he strives to create a full, satisfying texture with merely keyboard and drums. This innovation was inspired through collaboration with Joey Antico's ICO duo. Ellington is a versatile musician that is always striving to create an optimal aesthetic in every performance environment!
